To increase the availability of medicines for patients, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan initiated joint procurement by increasing the volume of medicines and medical devices.
The initiative was officially formalized in the form of a Memorandum of Cooperation and Mutual Understanding concluded between SK-Pharmacy LLP and the Kyrgyzpharmacy State Enterprise under the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The signing of the document took place during the III International Pharmaceutical Forum “Global Pharm”, which rightfully retains its status as the most productive dialogue platform for identifying new development opportunities and searching for reliable business partnerships.
Cooperation involves joint procurement of medicines and medical devices on the basis of equality and mutual benefit in accordance with national legislation and international treaties.
Neighboring states intend to exchange experience, monitor the production of medicines and cooperate in the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare in general, and increase the human resources and technical potential of specialists and experts from the two countries.
Joint procurement is a global practice that helps increase the availability of medicines. Its main goal is to ensure fair access to specific medical countermeasures and improve security of supply, as well as more balanced prices.
Thus, together, states can act as a major customer, which ensures better prices and allows priority deliveries to countries in greatest need. To prepare for a major cross-border health threat, countries can engage in joint procurement of vaccines, antivirals, diagnostic kits, medical equipment, personal protective equipment and health services.
It is worth noting that the Kyrgyzpharmacy State Enterprise was created this year. One of the main goals of the enterprise is to provide government healthcare organizations with high-quality medicines at low prices.
