18 DRUGS FOR FREE TREATMENT OF HEMOPHILIA AVAILABLE IN KAZAKHSTAN

Today is World Day Against Hemophilia. This day is celebrated at the initiative of the World Health Organization and the World Federation of Hemophilia to attract public attention to the problems of hemophilia and do everything possible to improve the quality of medical care. The first hemophilia day was celebrated in 1989.

Hemophilia is a severe hereditary genetic blood disease that is caused by a congenital absence of blood clotting factors. The disease is characterized by a blood clotting disorder and manifests itself in frequent hemorrhages in the joints, muscles and internal organs.

According to the World Federation of Hemophilia, there are 815,100 cases of hemophilia reported worldwide, of which only 347,026 are diagnosed and 276,900 cases are severe forms of hemophilia. And in Kazakhstan, as of 2023, there are 1,633 people living with this disease, 533 of them are children. These statistics were provided by the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery and the Association of Hemophilia Patients of Kazakhstan.

In our country, treatment of children and adults is carried out in accordance with treatment protocols and is financed by the government. At the same time, in order to provide more complete coverage of free medicine to all those in need, there is an annual increase in funding.

Providing the population with high-quality, effective, safe medicines, as well as increasing their availability within the framework of the guaranteed volume of free medical care from the state, is one of the main objectives of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

For the treatment of hereditary deficiencies of blood coagulation factors, the list of the Unified Distributor includes 18 types of medicines.

For 2024, medical organizations in the country have declared a need to purchase 17 types of drugs for a total amount of 15.2 billion tenge.

In our country, measures are taken annually to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hemophilia. According to open sources, thanks to the development of medical science, the pharmaceutical industry and attention to the problem of the state, experts in Kazakhstan note positive dynamics in the life expectancy of patients with hemophilia and an increase in their quality of life.
