On November 16, the Pharma Uzbekistan & Central Asia Congress and Exhibition started in Tashkent. The event is dedicated to the discussion of the largest investment projects for the construction and modernization of production facilities, as well as opportunities to improve the efficiency of existing pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises.
During the large-scale meeting, it was possible to exchange experience in the pharmaceutical industry, study measures to support and promote local production and introduce advanced digital technologies in the field of medicine.
The agenda included such large investment projects as the organization of the production of substances and medicines in the form of tablets, capsules, injections, medicine devices against diabetes, solid medicines and carbopenems and medical products.
A number of more than 20 leading speakers include representatives of ROSSA, Bayer CH, Nika Pharm, Bahttex-Pharm, SoftGroup AD, Zamona Rano, the Eurasian Academy of Good Practices and the Single Distributor of SK-Pharmacy LLP.
The President of Kazakhstan in his Message noted: “It is necessary to intensify cooperation with global pharmaceutical corporations. It is important to attract investors, to ensure the transfer of technologies and the latest developments. It is necessary to expand the scope and range of off-take contracts with domestic producers. The share of medicines and domestic production of medical devices must be increased from the current 17% to 50% as early as 2025.
In recent years, there has been a steady growth in the potential of the pharmaceutical industry in Central Asia – new pharmaceutical production is being created. In addition, the modernization of existing production facilities is being actively carried out.
In turn, SK-Pharmacy informed the participants about the centralized procurement system in Kazakhstan and the role of the Single Distributor in the drug supply system. Investment opportunities were announced in the field of pharmaceuticals, as well as cooperation initiatives with companies producing original drugs, raw materials for the production of medicines and medical devices.
The delegates were informed about the statistics of drug provision of Kazakhstanis. Thus, in recent years, the coverage of nosologies within the framework of free assistance and in the medical insurance system has increased 3 times, from 45 to 137 nosologies. Also, information was announced about domestic producers, which produce more than 30% of the names of medicines procured under the list of SK-Pharmacy.
During the report, measures were also announced to support domestic producers and attract BIG PHARMA, which involve active cooperation in supporting and developing the domestic production of medicines, providing quality medical care through the implementation of projects for continuing medical education, building up scientific and research potentials and providing more early access to innovative therapies.
The procurement and production of medical equipment were not overlooked. One of the main directions of state policy in health care is the creation of favorable conditions for equipping medical institutions with modern diagnostic and treatment-and-prophylactic equipment.
At the end of the speech, the speaker expressed her confidence that the international forum would contribute to solving various problems facing the pharmaceutical industry of the Central Asian countries, attracting foreign investment, introducing best practices in the development of pharmaceutical production and adopting the experience of neighboring countries.
We noted the great potential for economic cooperation between countries on the exchange of experience in the centralized procurement of medical equipment, medical information systems and voiced the possibility of increasing bilateral cooperation. The parties expressed their gratitude for the organization of the event and readiness for fruitful cooperation in the future.
